DOULA COLLABORATION AND SUPPORT
At Nor-Lea Hospital District, doulas are welcomed as valued members of the birthing support team who can provide continuous, non-clinical support that aligns with the organization’s mission to deliver compassionate, patient-centered care. Through collaboration with patients and healthcare professionals, doulas contribute to empowering and respectful birth experiences.
Nor-Lea Hospital District recognizes the role of doulas as non-clinical support professionals and encourages teamwork among doulas, nurses, midwives, physicians, and other healthcare providers. This collaboration promotes clear communication, mutual respect, and a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for patients and families.
The presence of doulas may contribute to positive birth experiences and outcomes by providing:
Emotional support to patients and families
Physical comfort measures during labor and recovery
Informational support to help patients understand options and participate in informed decision-making
Culturally responsive and respectful care
Supportive collaboration with the healthcare team
Patients have the right to have a doula present. Nor-Lea Hospital District policies and procedures must be followed, designed to ensure patient safety, privacy, and high-quality care. Within their non-clinical role, doulas may:
Provide continuous emotional and physical support
Assist with comfort measures and coping techniques during labor
Support patient advocacy and informed decision-making
Nor-Lea Hospital District does not employ doulas nor assume financial responsibility for doula services. Any fees associated with doula services are the responsibility of the patient and are arranged directly between the patient and the doula.
NOTICE:
Nor-Lea makes every attempt to collect payment from patients before sending accounts to collections and may ask for personal information, including banking information. We understand it can be hard to decipher us from scam artists calling from what appears to be our number. While we are taking every measure to mitigate this issue and protect patient information, we encourage patients to hang up if the call feels suspicious and call us directly to verify legitimacy. Our staff in the Private Pay/Collections Department are ready to receive your call and answer your questions regarding your patient account.
